The Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) is an empirically supported practice for supporting young autistic children. This workshop provides an overview of naturalistic developmental behavioral interventions and then dives deeper into the ESDM. Attendees will learn how to actively engage their young learners and build programs that are play-based, child-centered, and focused on honoring the autistic experience. This workshop includes video examples and hands-on practice exercises with both assessment and designing of goals and intervention. Attendees will also receive quarterly invites to meet with Dr. DeLeon Miller to troubleshoot application of the content learned within this workshop.
Learning Objectives:
- Attendees will be able to define naturalistic developmental behavioral interventions (NDBIs)
- Attendees will be able to identify at least 3 examples of NDBIs
- Attendees will be able to identify at least 5 strategies to use to create effective child-led sessions
- Attendees will be able to describe the Early Start Denver Model
- Attendees will be able to explain how to conduct the ESDM assessment
- Attendees will be able to explain how to design goals based on the ESDM
- Attendees will be able to explain how to troubleshoot goals based on ESDM
- Attendees will be able to identify at least 3 areas for training individuals on ESDM
